It consists of cooperative industry specialists, national, state, district, and primary cooperative society leaders, cooperative society secretaries (cooperation) and registrars of states and union territories, as well as officials from central ministries and departments.

An upcoming national cooperation strategy with a comprehensive approach starting with Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) has been recently announced by the Union Home Minister.

To ensure that cooperatives function as independent, self-sufficient, democratically managed institutions accountable to their members and make a significant contribution to the national economy, the current national policy on cooperatives was created in 2002 with the goals of facilitating cooperatives’ overall development and providing the necessary support, encouragement, and assistance to them.

“India now has over 8.5 lakh co-operative societies spread out throughout the whole nation, with a total of about 29 crore members. These co-operatives participate in a variety of industries, including weaving, housing, dairying, fishing, and marketing, to name a few “mentions a statement from the Cooperation Ministry.

To fulfill the mandate given to the newly established Ministry of Cooperation, which among other things, includes realizing the vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi,” strengthening the cooperative movement in the nation and deepening its reach up to the grassroots, promoting cooperative-based economic development models, and creating an appropriate policy, legal, and institutional framework to help cooperatives realize their goals, a new national cooperation policy document is being developed.

According to the statement, the new policy would significantly enhance the cooperative movement in the nation.
