Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-0 to reach the final of the FA Cup

Chelsea won a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (April 17) to reach the FA Cup final for the third time in a row. They will now face Liverpool, who are trying to win the quadruple.

During the second half, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount scored goals for Thomas Tuchel’s team to win the semi-final and play Liverpool, who beat Manchester City 3-2 on Saturday. Tuchel’s team will play them on May 14.

They want to make up for being runners-up to Leicester City and Arsenal in the last two seasons, and they also want to avenge their loss to Liverpool in the League Cup final in February.

This will be Chelsea’s fifth FA Cup final since 2006. Tuchel said, “I’m happy to be a part of another one in the FA Cup final.” People are competing against each other in a very big way. I’m very grateful, and we’ll be ready for anything.

Mason Mount scored the second goal for Chelsea against Crystal Palace. You can see it here.

When Chelsea’s patience paid off in the 65th minute, a substitute named Loftus-Cheek broke down Crystal Palace’s stubborn defense. Mateo Kovacic, who had been hurt in the first half, was replaced by Loftus-Cheek.

Ex-Crystal Palace loanee Loftus-Cheek scored his first goal after Kai Havertz’s cross from the right was deflected out to him. The 26-year-shot old hit Joachim Andersen and flew into the goal for his first season goal.

At the end of the first half, Mount added a fundamental goal for Chelsea. He played Timo Werner’s ball from the edge of their box past Andersen and then beat goalkeeper Jack Butland with his second touch. Until Loftus-Cheek broke the deadlock, Patrick Vieira’s Palace had done an excellent job keeping Chelsea at bay. Cheikhou Kouyate came close to scoring two times.

Wilfried Zaha couldn’t get away from Reece James and make an impact on Crystal Palace. Eberechi Eze didn’t do much as a replacement for on-loan midfielder Connor Gallagher, who couldn’t play against his parent club because of a virus.

The win was a good thing for Chelsea, who won the FA Cup eight times after losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday. After extra time, the holders won the second leg 3-2 but were knocked out 5-4 on aggregate.

It also gives them a chance to end a rough season with a trophy when they play Liverpool again next month. They lost 11-10 on penalties in the League Cup final in February after a 0-0 draw after extra time.

Loftus-Cheek: “I think it got a little deflected, but I’ll take it. It’s been a long time coming. I’m glad I got it.” With injuries and going on loan, it’s been a hard road for me. When we want Liverpool to come back, we say, “We want Liverpool.”

I thought the Carabao (League) Cup final was a great game that could have gone either way. We’re excited about it, and we hope to get back to them.
